A Decade of Nurturing Academic Leaders

In the pursuit of fostering the next generation of academic leaders, the GAABESU Alumni Research Award stands as a testament to the commitment of the Global Alumni Association of Bengal Engineering and Science University (GAABESU). This prestigious annual award, marking its 10th anniversary in the academic year 2023-24, recognizes the outstanding research efforts of current IIEST (Indian Institutes of Engineering Science and Technology) undergraduate and graduate students who are actively engaged in research alongside their academic studies.

Welcoming New Perspectives: Alumni in the Committee

One of the significant updates in the GAABESU Research Award Program involves the induction of three distinguished alumni into the Research Award sub-committee. These alumni, hailing from various corners of the globe, bring diverse perspectives and expertise to the committee:

  • Prof. Tarun Podder ('88 ME), USA
  • Prof. Sudipta De ('89 ME), India
  • Prof. Ashirbani Saha ('06 ETC), Canada

Their inclusion, along with the continued participation of existing committee members, ensures a rich blend of experience and fresh ideas in the evaluation process:

  • Prof. Nihar Biswas ('70 CE), Canada
  • Dr. Gautam Chattopadhyay ('87 ETC), USA
  • Prof. Partha Pratim Chattopadhyay ('84 MET), India

Enhancing Skills and Expanding Horizons

All candidates, following their application for the individual Research Awards, were required to present their research activities online to the global alumni community. Here, they were evaluated both for their presentation skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. Prior to this event, to assist our students to further enhance their skills, the Research Award Program hosted a workshop focusing on their presentation skills for delivering scientific talks.

Generosity Amplifying Impact: Class of 1988's Donation

A heartening development in the program is the generous donation of INR 10 lakhs by the Class of 1988. This donation has increased the number of Research Awards from 8 to 10, reflecting the alumni community's commitment to supporting and recognizing academic excellence.
