GAABESU Scholarship Programme: 2026-27

 

It is the vision of the alumni of IIEST to project it as a successful and leading institution of learning and research. One of the main components towards fulfilling that goal would be to recruit the best minds as students. In order to attract the best candidates to IIEST, the educational opportunity at IIEST needs to be based purely upon merit and not on one’s financial background. 

These scholarships have been created by contributions from the alumni globally since 1998. The number of scholarships varies yearly depending on the funds available and the number of qualifying applicants. A Scholarship Sub Committee has been formed by the GAABESU Executive Committee, where representatives from all participating Alumni Chapters in India and abroad coordinate with IIEST faculty & administration. A scholarship management procedure has also been developed by GAABESU to bring about a documented, fair, and transparent selection process, which is published on the GAABESU website:

Scholarship Announcement for Academic Year 2026-27

 

GAABESU is hereby announcing 101 “Need Based” Scholarships. 3 Special Scholarships for 1st Year Students, each valued at Rs. 25,000/-. The numbers may vary slightly, based upon donor confirmations, but that would not affect the application procedures. A list of available scholarships will be displayed on the GAABESU notice board & website, and it will be updated from time to time. 

Eligibility/Minimum Requirements: 

• The applicant must be a current IIEST undergraduate student.
• Applicant’s certified annual family income does NOT exceed Rs. 5,00,000/- (Rupees Five Lakh).
• Applicants must score SGPA more than 8.00 in the last semester of the previous year in IIEST. For 4th-year students – 6th semester, 3rd-year students – 4th semester, 2nd Year student – 2nd semester shall be considered. Records of previous semester scores shall also be considered for consistency in academics.
• SPECIAL CASES:
• An applicant with an annual family income less than Rs. 100,000/- (Rupees One lakh) can apply for a scholarship, even though their SGPA is less than 8.00.
• First-year students who do NOT have last semester's results can apply for the scholarships reserved for 1st-year students only.
• The applicant does NOT receive a scholarship from any other source in this academic year. However, students having a full or partial tuition fee waiver (as per IIEST policy) can apply for the GAABESU Scholarship.
• No disciplinary action had been taken against the applicant in IIEST
• Applicant understands that the scholarship is given on a yearly basis. The applicant should apply afresh if he/she is looking for a scholarship in the present year. Getting the scholarship for a particular year may not influence the decision in subsequent years.
• Applicant agrees that the scholarship money is to be used towards his/her educational expenses only. He/she shall be fully responsible for maintaining his/her accounts regarding usage of the fund received. The donor of the scholarship has the right to ask for details of accounts any time, and the recipient has to furnish the same immediately.
• Only if required, and in some special cases, the scholarship interview will be arranged through a video call date & time, and the log-in procedure will be sent to each applicant by e-mail. Accordingly, the applicant shall attend the interview. ‘No show’ by the applicant during the scholarship interview shall automatically lead to rejection of the scholarship. Should there be any valid reason for absence on the specified date & time, it shall be communicated to the GAABESU Office in advance and by e-mail with justification. In that case the application will not be rejected and an alternate date & time may be allocated for the candidate.
• In case ANY information submitted by the student in the application is found to be NOT correct or the form is altered, it shall automatically lead to rejection of the scholarship.

Declaration from GAABESU:

GAABESU does not discriminate applicants based on gender, race, religion, caste, political affiliation, medical history, family background, domicile state, nationality, etc. However, scholarship-specific criteria (specified by respective donors) shall apply during the selection process.

The following documents need to be submitted along with the application for scholarships:

• Copies of mark sheets of all previous semesters/years in IIEST
• Copy of Income Certificate, as submitted to IIEST at the time of admission.

The last date of submission of the application is 16th October 2026. 

 

Scholarship Recipients List Publication:

 

GAABESU will carry out the scholarship allotment process. Once approved, the FINAL list of GAABESU Scholarship Recipients for the Academic Year will be published on the GAABESU website: https://www.gaabesu.in/scholarship-gaabesu#gsc.tab=0

The final list is expected to be published on the GAABESU website by December 2026.

Scholarship Distribution:

This year, the “GAABESU Scholarships & Awards Distribution Ceremony” will be held in the month of January/February 2027. The date and schedule will be published on the GAABESU website.

Each recipient will be notified of the scholarship details, donor's name & contacts and amount by e-mail. All recipients shall acknowledge the email and attend the Distribution Ceremony. Absence without prior written intimation by email will be considered as ‘No Show’ and the scholarship may be withdrawn.

After the distribution ceremony, the scholarship fund will be deposited at the recipient’s bank account (as mentioned in the application form) directly. Each recipient needs to acknowledge receipt and send a ‘Thank You’ note to the respective donor.

“Alumni Fellowship for Excellence” Awards Programme Announcement for 2026-27

 

GAABESU launched their “Alumni Fellowship for Excellence” program from 2008-09 to award students who demonstrate outstanding performances in academics, sports, leadership qualities, performing arts, etc. 

GAABESU is happy to announce the “Alumni Fellowship for Excellence” (AFE) Awards Programme with at least 28 awards of a total value of Rs. 7,65,500/-, which will be awarded to IIEST students this year, from the corpus funds donated by alumni worldwide. The numbers may vary slightly, based upon the donor's confirmations, but that would not affect the application procedures. The details of each award are furnished below:

AFE-01        Prof. Naresh Chandra Bose Award for Excellence in Civil Engineering

Selection Process	SSC selects the student with the highest marks in 4th year ETC from the Merit List received from IIEST and recommends to the donor for approval. Once approved, GAABESU Office will contact the student for the award. The award will be handed over to the student by the donor's family/representative at an award distribution ceremony.

AFE-06        Sougata Mukherjee Memorial Awards for Excellence (2 nos.)

Selection Criteria	Member of the college sports team—representing IIEST in any sports. This criteria will be relaxed for girls students who satisfy the below criteria Exhibited leadership behavior: Part of Rebeca / Reunion organizing committee; organized academic seminars; Convocation: Represented hostel/class team in sports & other events Exhibited talent: Won competitions like quiz, debate, dramatics etc. Any other special talent in music, literature, fine arts, etc. Participants in various cultural activities like Rebeca / reunion, quiz, organized academic seminars, organized winter meet, and other hostel fests Students in need of financial assistance for continuation of their education will be given preference, but pre-qualification criteria won’t be relaxed

Selection Criteria	Demonstrated outstanding talent and winner of a national-level competition (organized by a reputed & recognized body) in one (or more) of the following categories:  Visual Arts: Drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video, filmmaking, etc. Applied Arts: Industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design, etc. Handicrafts & Decorative Arts: Using textile, leather, metal, clay, paper/pulp, ivory, glass, stone, wood, plant products, etc. Performing Arts: Song, Dance, Music, Drama/Theatre, Mime, Magic, Puppetry, Comedy, Mimicry, etc.

AFE-08        Arijit Guha Memorial Award for Excellence in Community Engagement & Social Welfare

Selection Criteria	Proven record of accomplishment in social work outside the college while a student at IIEST Shibpur Demonstrated record of broad intramural involvement within the IIEST Shibpur community Awareness of, and ability to communicate, the social responsibility of individuals pursuing careers in the engineering sciences and technologies, as evidenced in responses to two short essays (300 words or less in Bengali/English/Hindi) addressing: (1) How and why has the candidate been involved in community engagement and social efforts during his/her time as a student at IIEST Shibpur   Describe the extent and motivation(s) of any and all such participation, and how such engagement and efforts relate to and enrich the candidate's technical education. (2) What does the candidate understand to be the social responsibility of an engineer? The candidate's essay should incorporate responses to (a) how s/he plans to use the education and opportunities gained at IIEST to better society at large, and (b) the role of community involvement and participation in technical projects.

Selection Process	The GAABESU office will collect marks of woman students from the Heads of the 10 Departments to determine who has the highest CGPA after the 3rd year (1st. 6 semesters). SSC will compile all marks and recommend the student with the highest aggregate marks to Donor for approval.

Selection Process	SSC selects the student with highest marks in 4th year CE. On selection it will be referred to Donors’ approval.  Once approved GAABESU Office will contact the student for the award. The award will be handed over to the students by the donor's representative at an award distribution ceremony. During the award distribution ceremony, the biography of Late Mr. Tapan Kumar Basu (1958, CE) shall be read to the audience.

AFE-16        Kalyani Ganguly Memorial Fellowship for Social Service

Award Type	Perpetual, to commence from AY 2019-20
Donor	Ruchira and Aloke Ganguly ('84ME), Singapore
Selection Criteria	Current students at IIESTs who have met at least one of the following criteria: Volunteered in schools, hospitals, mental health clinics, NGOs, senior citizen centers, and other recognized   welfare centers. Helped others with a disability or a life-threatening disease. Resolved a social problem such as inadequate housing, unemployment, or substance abuse. Participated in social activities, not mentioned above, but made a significant impact on someone’s life. Candidates must submit documentary evidence of their mentioned works in social service in line with the criterion.

AFE-17        Smt. Leela Banerjee Memorial Fellowship for Social Service

Selection Criteria	The applicant shall be a current 3rd or 4th-year student at IIEST who has participated in voluntary work for at least 160 hours in the last 3 years in one or more of the following areas: Volunteered in schools, hospitals, mental health clinics, NGOs, senior citizen canters, and other recognized welfare canters. Helped others with a disability or a life-threatening disease. Resolved a social problem such as inadequate housing, unemployment, or substance abuse. Participated in social activities, not mentioned above, but made significant impact to someone’s life. Candidates must submit documentary evidence of their mentioned works in social service in line with the criterion

AFE-18        BEC84 Endowment Fellowship Award

Selection Criteria	An Undergraduate Engineering student with highest aggregated CGPA amongst those from weak economic background, and has completed 4 (four) semesters of continuous education. The criteria for basic selection of recipient will be at par with other such scholarships awarded by GAABESU.
Selection Process	Candidates will be selected from Scholarship applicants. Separate application for this AFE is not needed. Existing Scholarship application & selection process will be followed. Recommendations will be sent to the Donor for final selection / approval

AFE-19        Bandana Mukherjee Memorial Award for Women's Leadership

Award Type	Annual, commenced from AY 2020-21

Selection Criteria	Current students  who have met the following criteria: Woman student, rising 3rd year i.e., graduated 2nd year Amongst top 25% of the 2nd year class, by CGPA Demonstrated leadership in IIEST by actively engaging in or leading student clubs / organizations, other voluntary organizations inside or outside of IIEST, entrepreneurship success (if any), etc. Along with the application attach a page to give short answers (250-300 words) to following two questions:  What is your definition of “Women in Leadership” What can you tell us about your past experiences that prove your leadership

AFE-20     Suhas Choudry Memorial Award for Excellence in Swimming/Sports (2 nos)

Selection criterion	Male & Female Swimming Champions in IIEST. In case no swimming competition is held in IIEST in that year, students with established achievement in other sports will be considered.
Selection Process	Champions of Swimming competition organized by Aquatic Society in Swimming Pool at IIEST.

AFE-21        Award of Excellence in Social Leadership by BEC Batch-1990

Award Amount	It will be awarded in once every two years.

Selection Criteria
Field of Social work includes but not limited to running night/weekend school for street children/adult/women education program, volunteering to orphanage, volunteering to eradicate illiteracy in youth and adults, significant contribution to the society as a leading member of NGO who works for underprivileged, any invention of simple/low cost instrument /machine/ proven idea by which the village/underprivileged mass can be benefitted socially/ economically, significant effort/contribution towards eradication of superstition, creating   innovative and cost effective engineering solution to improve the wellbeing of unfortunate and under privileged section of the society. Supporting documentation required by the applicants:  Award Certificates in public ceremony, Video/Audio/Pictures of social works in which the applicants are visible in active participations in works and activities, Newspaper clippings, membership cards of any social work group.  Applicant should provide Phones, emails, websites of the social groups or projects where applicant’s social leadership and activities can be verified to establish applicant’s eligibility for the award. Applicants can submit any additional proof of social work/Leadership roles to increase the chance of winning the award. Members of the Award committee will physically/remotely verify the actual social works and roles of individual applicants based on provided information and documents. Based on physical verifications of the claim, Award committee will submit the reports to the selection committee for final selection. This will strictly be administered to select the genuine candidates for the award. Selection Criteria	The name of the scholarship is “Pradip Genius Scholarship". Donor’s father’s name - Late Shri Pradip Kumar Routh, Scientist.  This award is for a Genius student from 3rd or 4th year, any stream who has done any invention or published a research article in any reputed national or international science magazine. Supporting documentation required by the applicants:  A copy of Research Article.

Selection Criteria	IIEST 4th year Mechanical Engineering department topper (based on last Semester 6 score) Consistent good academic record (all semester score above CGPA 8.0) Good conduct in campus, no adverse report and no disciplinary action had been taken / pending
Selection Process	SSC selects the student with highest marks in 4th year ME. On selection it will be referred to Donors’ approval.  Once approved GAABESU Office will contact student for award. The award will be handed over to the students by Donors representative, at an award distribution ceremony.
Award Amount	INR 25,000 for AY 2026-27

 

Eligibility/Minimum Requirements:

1. The applicant must be a current IIEST undergraduate student with good academic record. Each AFE applicant should have scored CGPA 8.0 and above in IIEST. However, this criterion may be relaxed in exceptional cases (e.g., excellent sports performance, outstanding extracurricular activities, etc.).
2. No disciplinary action had been taken against the applicant in IIEST.
3. AFE is awarded on a yearly basis. Should any applicant already received AFE in the previous year, GAABESU will consider his/her achievement is already recognized. Therefore other applicants will get preference. However this is not applicable if any recipient is applying for another category of AFE.

5. AFE-10: Soumya Bhattacharyya Memorial Award for Excellence in Electrical Eng.
6. AFE-14: Smt. Uma Rani Neogi Award for Academic Excellence
7. AFE-15: Tapan Kumar Basu Excellence Award
8. AFE-25: Sandhya Sabud Memorial Award for best Mechanical Eng. Student
9. Candidates will be selected from GAABESU Scholarship applications.
10. AFE-2: 150 Years Commemorative BECAA-Maharashtra Awards
11. AFE-18: BEC84 Endowment Fellowship Award

Supporting Documents:

The following documents need to be submitted along with the application for AFE Award:

1. Candidates must submit documentary evidence of their achievements / works / recognitions, in line with the specific ‘Selection Criteria’ mentioned under each AFE
2. Copies of mark sheets of all previous semesters/years in IIEST
3. Candidates must identify the AFE category/ies, he/she is applying for.
4. Copy of Income Certificate, as submitted to IIEST at the time of admission.

AFE Awards Interview:

 

AFE Interview (in person) will be scheduled at GAABESU Office on: (to be informed later)

The shortlisted applicants will be communicated individually by e-mail that they have been selected for AFE Interview and reporting time at GAABESU Office. It will be sent to the same e-mail from which the application is received. The applicant shall confirm by reply mail their availability for the interview in person.

In case that date and/or time is not suitable due to any reason, the applicant shall send a formal request by email (GAABESU.Scholarship@gmail.com) to change the interview date with justifications in advance. Accordingly a new interview date will be allocated.

NOTE: ‘No show’ by the applicant during AFE Awards interview, shall automatically lead to rejection of the award. 

AFE Awards Recipients List Publication:

After Interview based on results. GAABESU Scholarship Sub Committee (SSC) will carry out AFE awards allotment process and obtain Donors approval. Once approved FINAL list of GAABESU AFE Awards Recipients for Academic Year 2025-26 will be published at GAABESU website: https://www.gaabesu.in/scholarship-gaabesu#gsc.tab=0

AFE Awards Distribution:

This year “GAABESU Scholarships & Awards Distribution Ceremony” will be held in the month of January/February 2027. The date and schedule will be published at GAABESU Website. 

Each recipient will be notified of the AFE Awards details, donor name & contacts, amount, and date of the award ceremony by e-mail. All recipients shall acknowledge the email and attend the Distribution Ceremony. Absence without prior written intimation by email will be considered as ‘No Show,' and the AFE Award may be withdrawn.

After the Distribution Ceremony, the AFE Award fund will be deposited at the recipient’s bank account (as mentioned in the Application/Declaration Form) directly. Each recipient needs to acknowledge receipt and send a ‘Thank You’ note to the respective donor.
